Having designed the wedding dress for Britain’s future queen and taken over Alexander McQueen, one of the worlds most esteemed brands, Sarah Burton has had one hell of a year. Still only 37 years old, Burton has transformed herself from behind the scenes designer, to legend at the forefront.
In May 2010, four months after the death of Lee Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton was announced as Creative Director of the Avant Garde brand. Instead of trying to continue the insane shows that McQueen was best known for, Burton went the other direction and brought the brand her own way. The shows have become much more wearable but at the same time make you want to dream.
With fans like Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomi Campbell and socialite Daphne Guinness, Sarah Burton truly knows what women want to wear. It came as no surprise, then, when the Duchess of Cambridge selected Mrs. Burton to design her wedding dress for the most watched wedding of the century. It did not disappoint.
It seems that Sarah Burton has risen to fame at the right time. A meteoric rise for someone who started as an intern. Now with the brand starting to advertise for the first time and an increased demand for the clothes, it seems we will be seeing a lot more of Sarah Burton and her brand Alexander McQueen.
