Maria Gildea from Co. Donegal was crowned Ireland’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2012 last week as the country’s top specs-wearing style-setter finalists went head to head for the coveted title at a fashion event in the Minerva Suite at the RDS in Dublin.

MC on the night, TV presenter and model Glenda Gilson, was on hand to introduce each of the finalists to the panel of judges as they took to the catwalk. The evening was a glamorous affair with all fashion provided by House of Fraser and styled by Sinead Keenan.

Judges making the all-important decision included Styleisle.ie fashion blogger Lorna Weightman, Irish Daily Mirror Showbiz Editor Sam Hamilton, Assets Model Agency boss Derek Daniels and Specsavers’ Sinead Clohessy.

Winner Maria received one year’s representation with Assets Model Agency, a make-up master class with top make-up artist Zoe Clarke, a fashion portfolio shoot with top photographer Lili Forberg, a €250 House of Fraser gift card and a €215 Specsavers eye-care voucher.

Maria will now also go on to appear at the international grand final at London’s iconic Battersea Power Station on Tuesday October 30th.
