Following on from the highly successful screenings of cult classics Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, Alien, Blues Brothers and The Usual Suspects, the Jameson Cult Film Club returned to Dublin this week for their biggest and most electrifying double screening to date.
Dublin’s Mansion House was completely transformed into the Baltimore State Forensic Hospital for an exclusive screening of the horror thriller, The Silence of the Lambs, which saw guests transported straight into the menacing world of Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill!
After entering the hospital’s Maximum Security Ward, guests were quarantined as hospital staff briefed them about the safety protocols, before following in the footsteps of Clarice Starling through a corridor of patients and finally coming face to face with Hannibal Lecter in his windowless cell. Buffalo Bill’s workshop was recreated for guests to walk around before loud crescendos of one of the film’s main scores – Bach’s ‘Goldberg Variations’ – called everyone to their seats. Live theatre and special effects timed perfectly with on-screen action helped to create an electric atmosphere throughout the screening, including the ‘Catherine Martin kidnap scene’, the night vision gun fight in Buffalo Bill’s house and fluttering moths landing in the laps of unsuspecting viewers.
Smooth Jameson, Ginger and Lime long drinks, along with ‘ buffalo bill ‘ burgers, were served while renowned DJ Aidan Kelly took to the decks after the screening.
For the uninitiated, Jameson Cult Film Club is all about watching your favourite cult films at spectacular screenings, staged to transport you into the film’s universe. This is a free event for movie fans, get more details at www.jamesoncultfilmclub.ie
