RACHEL BILSON holds the secret to perfect summer hair with an au naturale sun kissed look avoiding the overdone ‘streaky’ look. It is the ‘it’ trend this summer and you too can achieve Rachel’s look using the Balayage method of highlighting hair.

Balayage is sometimes referred to as hair painting or ‘sweeping’ because a sweeping motion is used when applying the colour. Essentially Balayage involves painting sections of the hair with the end result being a sexy grown-out look that takes literally minutes to achieve and requires less maintenance than traditional highlights.
The look is sun kissed, outdoorsy and very natural looking. It is a casual and rather bohemian style and more versatile because you can choose exactly which sections you want to be lightened and by how many shades.
This free-form highlighting technique is the style Rachel Bilson has been sporting all summer long, it is high on style and low on maintenance which is just how we like it! Make sure to use a good hair treatment every few weeks such as the Kerataste
Reflection Chroma Riche Masque, Kérastase, (€35.30) to ensure your hair remains in tip top condition. This rich radiance
enhancing treatment masque for sensitive hair transforms hair texture leaving hair colour replenished and reflecting a mirror-like shine. Fluide Chrome Riche, Kérastase, (€24.30) is a luminous deep emollient product that we love for highlighted hair. It leaves your hair with a ‘hydrated’ feel and provides an anti-frizz action which is soft and controlled; just add 1 or 2 pumps to towel dried hair.

Styling is loosely based on a beach, messy look; Rachel seems to go with the less is more style! L’Oreal Professionnel Techni Art Play Ball Beach Frizz (150ml, € 17.50) is perfect. For that effortless ‘just left the beach’ look all you need is a spritz. Giving you the salt spray beach effect, this offers up sexy tousles with a matt finish. You just spray it onto wet or dry hair, define sections of hair with your fingers for texture and voilà!
Other celebrity fans of balayage highlights include Giselle, Kate Moss, Nicole Richie and Sienna Miller.
(Prices for Balayage highlight vary depending on individual consultation, hair length, half head/ full head etc.)
