Sadly, the D&G label is reportedly hanging in the balance; in fact a very reliable source told me last summer that the D&G summer 2012 collection would be the last.
This season, D&G menswear is enjoying a spot of vintage Gianni Versace influence, with brightly coloured foulard prints appearing on shirts, scarves, shorts and trousers. Relaxed pyjama shapes, in trousers and jackets appear in printed jewel hues, with the very D&G addition of denim waistbands providing a homemade streetwear edge. It’s all a bit Lady GaGa… Sir GaGa, if you like!
D&G has always been one of my favourite designer menswear labels and I would certainly be sad to see it go. The label has really found its homourous design voice in recent years but I’m sad to say, this, for me, is one the Italian design duo’s worst collections to date; with very few wearable pieces for the average Joe who likes to inject a bit of designer flair in to his otherwise standard wardrobe. Perhaps this was the point for their swansong collection.
